It is 50km far from Addis Ababa in the south western part of Addis Ababa and which is an open air pre historic site. It was first discovered by G.Dekker in 1963 and classified as one of the most significant stone- age site in Ethiopia. Most archaeologists believe that, Melka Kunture was created due to hominids had been living along the right and left banks of the Awash River. Accordingly, the site becoming very rich with several homo-erectus fossils, whom, the people were living here in between 1.5 and 2 million years ago.
