It has an area of 2,162 km2 and about 770 km far in the southwest of Addis Ababa, on east bank of the Omo River. 450-2,528m. highest point is Mount Mago.

Mainly grass savannah, some forested areas around rivers. Conservation area for plains animals, 56 species of mammals: Buffalo, giraffe, elephant, Lowell hartebeest, lion, cheetah, leopard, zebra, gerenuk, Oryx. This park is also a patch way to visit the Mursi People (Leap clay plated women), at the northern part of the park, adjacent to the Omo river.
