Tour Details
Day 01: Arrive at Addis Ababa and fly to Mekelle then, drive to Hamedela. After driving around 100km from Meke1le to Berhale, there is a stop to take lunch from lunch box. Arrange permission and continue to driving to Hamedela about 60km from Berhale. Overnight: Campining at Hamedela
Day 02: In the morning, drive to the so called ‘Dodum’ which is the base camp for EartAl and the road has two parts, the first and the largest distance of the road is covered by sand. The rest of the road is also covered by rock. There is a lunch stop in Kusrawit, The place where scouts and camels for the luggage are arranged by the chief of the village. After lunch, continue to drive to ‘Dodum’. Up on arrival, take rest and dinner till the time arrive to trek to EartAle. After dinner start to trek to EartAle and take sufficient time to visit the volcanic eruption. Overnight at EartAle camping.
Day 03: Early in the morning, visit EarAle again to experience the reaction in a day light and then turn back to Dodom camp. Upon arrival take breakfast and continue driving back to Hamedela. Overnight: Camping at Hamedela.
Day 04: Drive to Dallol and staying half a day in Dallol by crossing the largest depression, to see the black salt mountain(Lake Asaele), colorful hot spring water, salt mountains Acid cave, traditionally salt excavating area as well as wide area of salt composition and the original camel caravan life. Finally, drive back to Hamedela, and take a lunch and then drive back to Mekelle. Overnight: At Mekele.
Day 5: Early in the morning depart Mekelle (the capital city of the country during the reign of Emperor Yohannes in the late 19th century) to Lalibela via korum, en route see magnificent landscape and rural areas with large farm scales. Overnight: hotel.
Day 6: After having breakfast, city tour of Lalibela, which is the host of the remarkable 12th century rock hewn churches and one of the eighth wonder of the world. Moreover, it is classified as a world heritage site in 1978,visit the first group of churches which holds six rock hewn churches and two of them are monolithic (completely separated from the main rock and standing freely) Moreover, they are known also Earthly Jerusalem or the northern cluster. After having lunch continues to see the 2nd group of churches, which is also known as Heavenly Jerusalem again it contains four churches and only Bete Amanuel is monolithic. At the end, visit the third group of church, which is the monolithic and finely curved Bete Giorgis which believes that this church was the last work of Lalibela from the Lalibela complex. Overnight: Hotel.
Day 07: In the morning, fly back to Addis Ababa then have a city tour which includes the National (Archaeological) Museum where, among other archaeological findings, the oldest hominid fossil (Lucy) is exhibited, the Ethnological Museum in the former palace of King Hailesillassie, then after lunch visit the superb Holy Trinity Cathedral and Merkato the largest open air market in Africa.
